Typically, when someone cheats in a relationship, we assume that they were unhappy or dissatisfied for a particular reason.

According to research, however, some men can't help but cheat based on their facial characteristics.

True, certain types of men are more likely to cheat than others.

According to the findings of a study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, facial width-to-height ratio (fWHR) is associated with certain behavioral traits.

In particular, they discovered that men with shorter, wider faces have a greater extraordinary sex drive and are more likely to cheat than men with longer, more narrow faces.

Canadian researchers from Nipissing University, Simon Fraser University, the University of Ottawa, and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine conducted two studies to prove their initial hypothesis.

In the first study, 145 heterosexual students (69 males and 76 females) in committed relationships were asked to complete a sexual behavior questionnaire.

The participants' facial dimensions were then measured using photographs they provided.

In doing so, the team discovered a positive correlation between FWHR and sex drive in men.

In the second study, researchers not only examined the relationship between fWHR and sex drive, but also intended infidelity and sociosexuality, which is a person's willingness to engage in casual sex outside of a committed relationship.

This time, 314 students, 43% of whom were male, were recruited from a different Canadian college approximately 350 kilometers away from the original study site.

They followed the same procedures as those in the initial study. In addition, they were questioned regarding their propensity for cheating.

This time, researchers discovered a correlation between fWHR and sexual desire. In addition, they discovered a correlation between sociosexuality and intentional infidelity in men, but not in women.

This study demonstrates a strong correlation between face shape and men's propensity for high sex drive and cheating.

It should be noted, however, that the research methodology had significant limitations.

While the findings held true when ethnicity and sexual orientation were taken into account, only the first of the two studies collected and controlled for BMI data.

Additionally, the study only included college students, prompting us to question whether the outcomes would have been the same if a more mature, legally married population had been included.

Lastly, while this team also discovered a correlation between a greater sex drive and squarer facial dimensions in women, subsequent research has refuted these findings.
