My new post.

You may be wondering why a woman might need to buy a vibrator. Before the 1960s, there were few female-friendly sex toys and almost no information about female orgasm or masturbation in mainstream culture. Sex was considered something that happened between couples in order to produce children and keep marriages stable—something that only men would think about, let alone do. The women's movement changed all of this for good: it helped usher us out of the dark ages of sex by encouraging women to take control over their own bodies, sexual pleasure included. However, there was nothing like the discreet vibrators for women back then.

The women’s liberation movement (also called feminism) began when Betty Friedan published her book The Feminine Mystique in 1963; this was followed by an explosive rise in activism from feminists who wanted more equality than just equal pay for work outside the home. They also sought access to contraception and abortion rights; easier divorce proceedings; better education for girls; ending discrimination based on race or sexuality (including gender roles); ending harassment against pregnant teens at school or work; preventing rape without blaming victims through “no means no” campaigns... you get the idea!
