How to Measure, Install and Maintain Roller Window Blinds

Roller blinds - how to measure

introduction

There are many things to consider when measuring Custom Shades Jackson Tn. Here's a quick guide to help. First, make sure you have a pencil, paper, and a tape measure (preferably a metal one).

what to measure

Always measure in millimeters (mm) as most blind suppliers require sizes in millimeters.

measurement location

There are two potential locations for installing blinds in a regular window area. These are known as window faces or window recesses. Roller blinds can be mounted on top of a window frame or wall surface or window recess. This gives you complete control over the position of the blinds.

For recess measurement:

Make sure you have enough depth to mount inside the window frame area. 75mm should be fine. Less than that and the blind will stick out of the recess. If it's less than 75mm, you might consider installing the blinds outside the window recess to fit your face.

Measure the width of the wall-to-wall recess at the top. This is the location to mount the bracket. Measure across 3 areas of width to ensure that those areas are the same (or very similar) in width and that there are no protrusions on the wall that will affect blind operation.

Record the shortest measurement.

Peel off each side by 10mm. This will give you some flexibility in case of deformation in the wall and avoid damaging the blinds. It is recommended to fit the blinds on the window side to completely block out the light.

Measure the drop by measuring from the top of the groove to the bottom.

Record the shortest measurement.

Stoppers come with many roller blinds, which means they limit the movement of the blind so it can be extended to fit the windowsill perfectly. Operate the blind chain with one hand and with the other, hold one of the chain balls between your thumb and forefinger and see when it reaches the top of the mechanism. Once the perfect length is achieved, use a pair of pliers to thread the blind chain stopper onto the chain.

Face measurements:

Measure the exact width of where you want your blinds to be. Adding an overlap in the window frame between 50 and 100 mm as a guide can help reduce the gaps on the sides of the blinds, providing better light control and more privacy.

Record the measurements.

Measure the drop from the top to the bottom where you want to place the blinds.

And remember...

• Subtract 10 mm from each side of all concave width measurements.

• Take at least two measurements to ensure there are no errors.

• Note which side you want to place the controls for easy access.

• To ensure a good fit, it is important to account for obstructions such as window handles when taking measurements.

• For full-length windows, we recommend measuring approximately 20 mm from the floor. This provides ample space and allows space for blind people to work out overtime.

• For face fit installations, the blinds should be raised 100-150mm above the frame to allow the roller mechanism to clear as much glass as possible when lifted. This allows more light into the room and it is important to allow for spacing when there are blinds on the door.

• Determine whether the blinds are over-roll or under-roll. Fabrics that roll on the back are usually standard rolls.
