Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, And Intersex Men

The following are available to gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men: Home > LGBTQ

Why does this matter?

Gay: A man who is attracted to men in a romantic or sexual way. Additionally, the word can be used to refer to homosexuality in general.

Bisexual: A person who finds both women and men to be sexually and/or romantically attractive. Any other orientations where there is attraction to more than one gender might be included under this general term, which is frequently used.

MSM: Male partners for sex.

Condoms for sexual health

Transmission of STIs and HIV is greatly diminished by condom use. Make sure you're using a condom properly by clicking here for more information. Always use water-based lubricant. Condoms are vulnerable to breaking when exposed to oil-based lubricants.

HIV

The sooner you receive an HIV diagnosis, the sooner you can begin treatment. You should be able to live a long and healthy life because HIV drugs are so effective. Since HIV is undetectable when taken as prescribed, it cannot be transmitted. Regular HIV testing is essential so that you can detect the disease quickly and begin treatment. To learn more about our support programs for HIV-positive individuals, click here.

You can go to your local sexual health clinic or A&E and ask for PEP if you have been at risk of HIV transmission in the previous 72 hours (for instance, if your condom split or you had condomless sex with someone who is living with HIV). PEP is a 28-day drug treatment that greatly lowers your chance of contracting HIV. It is best to begin taking PEP as soon as possible following exposure. For more information, go here.

If you use PrEP as prescribed, it can help you avoid contracting HIV. As part of the IMPACT trial, it is provided from a few sexual health clinics in England. If you're interested in learning more or taking part in the trial, please get in touch with us. Click here for more details on PrEP, including the proper way to take it. For those who are on PrEP outside of the trial, YorsexualHealth can perform testing and monitoring.

STIs

Having intercourse with other men increases a man's risk of contracting syphilis. Direct skin-to-skin contact with someone who has a Syphilis rash or sores or unprotected intercourse are the two ways it can be transmitted. A blood test is used to diagnose it, and antibiotics are used to treat it. There are three stages to its development, and each has a unique set of symptoms. Observe this video for further details on this:

The liver is harmed by hepatitis B and C viruses. They can be transmitted by unprotected sex or by sharing drug-using supplies. At YorSexualHealth, you can get tested for Hepatitis B and C. If you run the risk of contracting Hepatitis B through intercourse, we can also give you the vaccine. Watch this video to learn more about Hepatitis B and C:

YorSexualHealth also offers testing and care for additional STIs, such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. For our hours of operation and contact information, please visit our Clinics and Services pages.

An STI called HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is transferred through skin-to-skin contact. Some can cause throat, anal, or penile cancer. You can get an HPV vaccination at YorsexualHealth if you are a male who has sex like in sex viet nam with other men between the ages of 15 and 45.
