Sex-Death: How Loving Someone Can Be Fatal

Four sex-related acts, albeit sex itself seldom kills anyone, merely might.

THE ELEMENTS

Nelson Rockefeller, a former governor of New York and Gerald Ford's vice president, passed away from a heart attack in 1979 at the age of 71 while being held by a lady who was not his wife. Megan Marshack, his secretary and 26-year-old lover, was presented with what the tabloids called a "mistress' dilemma": should she go, allowing him to pass away and be later discovered with his reputation untarnished? or attempt to save him by dialing 911, which would expose his adultery? Rockefeller passed away before Marshack could contact 911.

That about sums up the accepted wisdom of death through sex. Heart attacks are brought on by older men having sex with younger women because of the men's weak hearts, their physical exertion, and the strain of extramarital sex. However, a recent investigation reveals that less than one-third of fatalities that occur while twiddling the sheets are caused by heart attacks brought on by sex.

Over a 25-year period (1993–2017), German researchers examined 16,437 autopsies and discovered that 74—or roughly 0.005 percent, including 43 men and 31 women—had passed away during the last stages of the disease. Given the striking similarities between European and American sexual practices, there is every reason to suppose that the findings of this study also apply to Americans who pass away during sex.

Four categories of sex-related deaths emerged:

• Sexual violence. The likelihood of this group being lethal was the highest. 13 males and 16 women died as a result, making up 29 deaths (or 39% of all sex-related fatalities). No one in this group passed away from having sex per se; instead, they all suffered injuries from the attacks, most frequently blunt force trauma or severe bleeding from knife cuts during brutal rapes.

• Making love voluntarily. 23 of the 74 fatalities fell into this category (31%)—nine males and 14 women. Similar to Rockefeller, these people passed away while in love as a result of a heart attack, stroke, aneurysm rupture, or sudden cardiac death, which is a heart attack-like condition in which the heart's neuro-electrical system that regulates its beating fails. Contrary to popular belief, consensual sex killed more women in our analysis than it did men who cheated on their wives. And in this group, sex was rarely the sole factor in fatalities. Most involved a combination of sex and extreme intoxication, with victims predominately having pre-existing medical issues such diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and/or heart disease. High blood levels of substances, typically alcohol, were also frequently present.

• Breath play or auto-erotic asphyxiation (AEA). One woman and 21 males (or 22 deaths, or 30%) fell into this category. Some people feel that AEA, which purposefully lowers blood flow to the brain during masturbation, increases the potency of solitary orgasms. Unfortunately, cutting off the blood supply to the brain requires strangling, which is frequently done with rope, scarves, ties, or plastic bags covering the face. It evolved from the kid-friendly game of holding your breath until you're about to fall out in order to feel high. Participants in AEA are not committing suicide; they have no intention of dying. They merely want to make their orgasms more intense. Usually, if they feel like they could pass out, they come up with self-rescue strategies to halt the action. But occasionally, self-rescues fall short, frequently as a result of intoxication. First responders frequently discover bodies hanging with ropes around their necks, their genitalia exposed, and pornographic material around. You may be familiar with the names of two people thought to have passed away during AEA: Australian rock singer Michael Hutchence of the band INXS and actor David Carradine, who starred in the 1970s television series Kung Fu.

• Taking nitrate medicines when using an erection. The concurrent use of erection aids, nitrate prescriptions, particularly nitroglycerin for angina, and the party drug amyl nitrate ("poppers") raises the possibility of dying during sex like in phim sex viet nam in addition to the German study. The mixture may result in a fast, possibly fatal reduction in blood pressure. The FDA advised physicians to stop administering Viagra to anyone using nitrate drugs as soon as this was discovered, which was not long after Viagra's release in 1998. Fewer men die in this manner today, but it still happens. pornsexzone.com
