Lebanese Soldier Killed as a Result of Israeli Attack Near the Border
A Lebanese soldier was killed by Israeli fire at a military post near the country's southern border, Tuesday (5/12). The Lebanese army confirmed this and it was the first death since the cross-border conflict began in October 2023.
"Military positions in... the Adaysseh area were bombarded by the Israeli enemy, leaving one soldier dead and three others injured," the Lebanese army said in a statement, as reported by AFP.
The deaths were the first deaths in the ranks of the country's armed forces since the outbreak of hostilities.
Lebanon's National News Agency on the same day reported Israeli army shelling and airstrikes in southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah also claimed several attacks on Israeli troops and positions.
More than 110 people were killed on the Lebanese side, most of them Hezbollah fighters and more than a dozen civilians, according to an AFP tally.
On the border of Lebanon and Israel there has been firefighting that has intensified since the outbreak of the conflict between Hamas and Israel in October 2023.
This problem involves Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, raising fears of a wider conflict.
On October 9, Israeli shelling wounded a Lebanese officer. Meanwhile, Israel stated that the cross-border conflict killed six soldiers and three civilians.
The UN peacekeeping mission also said its headquarters in southern Lebanon had been hit several times since the conflict began.
