New Facts about the Japanese Earthquake Killed Dozens of People

Tokyo - A major earthquake starts 2024 in Japan. After sunrise, this natural disaster is known to have claimed more lives. Here are the latest facts.

Previously it was reported that this earthquake shook from the Noto area, Ishikawa Prefecture, Honshu Island, on the side facing Asia (China-Korea). The earthquake occurred on January 1, 2024 at 16.10 pm local time.

A tsunami emerged from this earthquake. The tsunami height was around 1.2 meters at Wajima port. Reported by AFP, the scale of the damage began to become apparent on Tuesday (2/1) morning, with buildings damaged, houses flattened, roads cracked, fishing boats sunk or stranded on the coast.

"The earthquake shock was really powerful. What a bad way to start this year," said one local resident, Tsugumasa Mihara (73), speaking to AFP as he queued for clean water with hundreds of other people in the town of Shika which was also affected by the earthquake.

Fatalities

Japanese authorities have again reported an increase in the number of deaths due to the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that rocked the Ishikawa Prefecture area earlier this year.

"The death toll has reached 48 people," said an official in Ishikawa, who declined to be named, when speaking to AFP, Tuesday (2/1/2024).
